2016 was a tough year for a lot of us, leaving us wanting desperately for the new year and a fresh start. But with all the challenges, there were good times too. Now is the time to reflect on the good stuff.
Here is what I try to do:
Write down everything you have achieved and be GRATEFUL. I believe that every challenge presented to us is an opportunity to learn and grow. If you had to move, you might have learned to let go of attachments. If you ended a relationship, you might have learned that you deserve a better more fulfilling relationship. If you struggled financially, you might have learned to creatively manifest all your needs and to trust. All of our struggles teach us to be more compassionate and less judgmental of others. Through learning life's lessons, we can open up our hearts even wider. Whatever our challenge, there is always an opportunity to learn.
Now we have filled our hearts, make a list of all the things you want to LEAVE BEHIND in 2016. This can be people, places, attitudes, judgements, misbeliefs, anything, really — and burn it. Safely, of course! I have a friend that likes to build a ceremonial mini bon-fire, where she likes to leave the luggage of the year prior, in order to be fully ready to embrace the beginnings of the new year. For me, I am more than happy to put them in the fire at home, and watch them burn.
Do your laundry, clean your house, remove expired food from the fridge, and bring in fresh flowers! Start out the New Year with a CLEAN SLATE. You don’t want to bring any “dirty laundry” into 2017. It may seem silly — but trust me. I know a lot of you are cleaning out your closets, garages and cabinets now and that’s even better. But if you are like me and don’t have much time — just clean out the fridge and do some laundry. This is about shifting energy and making room for the new. And fresh flowers? It is amazing how the simple beauty of quality fresh flowers, the smell, the glory of them, can uplift even the lowest spirits. For me, there is nothing better than walking into a room with fresh flowers - visually I am stimulated by them, and the smell, just wakes me up. Sets all my senses alight and I can take on anything the day has in store for me.
And finally...
Dance in the New Year! Allow yourself to be proud of all you have accomplished this past year and be happy you made it! Congratulate yourself with a pat on the back and send yourself blessings of LOVE, JOY, PROSPERITY, and PEACE. You deserve it! Believe it! If this is the bit you struggle with, try this tip I use - light candles - as you are lighting them, name them - love - joy - prosperity - peace. Simple tea lights will achieve this also. Reflect on this, as the wick takes light, allow yourself that moment to smile and feel the sentiment you have given light - you will feel better, I know I always do!
Happy New Year!
Many blessings to you, GL x
