You Will Never Believe This! #FoodiesFestivalFlowers

We have been asked by the UK’s biggest celebration of Food, Drink & Wellbeing, Foodies Festival, to dress their VIP tent at this long weekend’s Festival at Hove’s Lawn, Brighton. We are so chuffed!

Little ol’ us!! (cue: squeal of excitement)

We have worked hard to create a magical tale with flowers to ensure the visitors to the Foodies Festival VIP Tent have a time to remember… Say It With Flowers! Ginger Lily Flowers.

Here are just a few pictures ahead of the big event… will upload more throughout the weekend…

The preparation for our Gold Pineapples.

Look forward to seeing you there!

When flowers break the internet!

Who would have thought it that nature would have triumphed over technology! Say It With Flowers!

I love flowers. I always have. I always will. They will be my first and foremost love.

Except for my wonderful supportive husband and darling little puppy Booboo… I digress...

Our precious Booboo (cheeky pic x).

And except when it comes to my amazing team of Floral Artisans. Then, these girls are the ones I need to step in to protect – and yesterday, it was from their outstanding and overriding commitment to our fabulous customers and their need for flowers on Mother’s Day.

I never thought I would come between one of our lovely customers’ need for flowers and our need to preciously supply them… but I did. We closed the doors, and turned off the website. Well... OK... we still had a little lifeline and were accepting orders over the phone, but mostly, we closed… and we closed on Saturday! Wowzers!!

Totally overwhelmed by the love and support of our fabulous customers, and with a very heavy heart I pulled the plug. For those that missed out, I do hope you understand and still love us! My poor team were dead on their feet, even with extra staff and extra drivers. We did it though – for those customers who were able to get their orders in before we closed.

Some pictures from the shop...

What did we learn?

We are loved! Thank you x
We have an amazing team – of florists, of drivers, of suppliers! Thank you, thank you, thank you xxx
We need more – more space, more florists, more drivers! We are working on it… wink!
We need more time – and how! Remember, the early bird catches the worm.

Waiting for the other shoe to drop.

I am completely overwhelmed and humbled by the support we get from our fabulous, amazing, wonderful customers.

Our little team at Ginger Lily have worked tirelessly to bring the most order, control and magic we can to your day of Mothering Sunday or Mother's Day (as I grew up knowing it). We have counted, reflected, researched what would be the best possible flowers, plants and giftware that we could provide, to make sure that when you visit us (online here, or in person), you too would feel the magic.

Now my terror creeps in... Will you love it, as we do! When one of our drivers turn up with your gift of love, will you too feel the magic? I hope so. x

In case we do not get to say it before, we all, at Ginger Lily, wish you the most special and lovely day on Sunday. However you get to spend it, enjoy!

With love, GL x

Celebrating the Goddess in all of us!

Getting Ready For Mother's Day...

How many photo's does it take to make it to our website?
How many photo's does it take to make it to our blog?

The answer to the first is many... the answer to the latter, just one or two (cheeky) shots!

I have shared previously how talented my team @ GL are... I fear I'm about to do that again. As deliciously dedicated Floral Artisans, I truly believe they can do anything! "We can take a few shots of the newly created floral bouquets for Mother's Day for the website - right?" (I muse)... Sure!

One day, a dodgy camera, 2 skilled Floral Artisans, a re-shoot on another day (attempted with same dodgy camera), and a genius with a new iPhone (not me - one of said genius Floral Artisans) - Voila! Success! We have out new collection ready to be uploaded. Easy right...?!! Far from.

Courage, faith and a whole lot of talent is what goes into making our bouquets beautiful, and translate across to you, our wonderful customers.

Ema getting the perfect shot of our Phoebe bouquet...

... and some that didn't quite make it onto the Ginger Lily website... the delightfully delicate Julietta bouquet and the scrumption Rose and Violet Holdsworth Chocolates (brought in just for Mother's Day - sold in store only)!

Every mum is different but special in her own way. If there is one person that deserves to be spoiled and celebrated on her very own holiday, it’s mum! Whatever you are doing to celebrate your Goddess this Mother's Day, we @ GL, wish you the most splendid time.

Valentines Day

The true history of Valentine’s Day is shrouded in mystery. Whilst February has long been celebrated as a month of romance and St. Valentine’s Day, who was Saint Valentine, and how did he become associated with this ancient rite?

The Catholic Church recognizes at least three different saints named Valentine or Valentinus, all of whom were martyred. My favourite legend, which plays to my strong romantic streak, contends that Valentine was a priest who served during the third century in Rome. When Emperor Claudius II decided that single men made better soldiers than those with wives and families, he outlawed marriage for young men. Valentine, realizing the injustice of the decree, defied Claudius and continued to perform marriages for young lovers in secret. When Valentine’s actions were discovered, Claudius ordered that he be put to death. Today we celebrate his chivalrous actions by giving blood red roses in honour of his sacrifice for love.

Whatever your belief, there is no more romantic gift, than the gift of flowers on Valentine's Day. We at Ginger Lily Florists are passionate about helping you with your gift of love this Valentines Day.

A new year, a new window full of possibilities!

I know I am biased, but I am blessed with the best team!

Having gone from one person with a dream, to a team of 11 people, I've learned from the advice of people I admire and follow (Richard Branson is definitely the top of my inspirational leader list):

Choose the best

BE SELECTIVE when hiring. My team are an extension of me and the front of my brand and company. As a very wise person once said (thank you again RB) - hire people smarter than yourself. People who will work hard in helping me make the business a success. People who are as passionate about flowers and doing the very best they can to deliver exceptional service to our beloved customers as you (and let me tell you, that's a lot of passion!).

Trust your instincts

This has probably been one of the hardest lessons for me to learn - trusting my instincts and following my gut. It is funny how when you go to start on your path to your own business, how many thoughts, ideas and doubts people have of their own to share with you. It can make it hard to keep focussed, committed and on track. BE FEARLESS! For me, having a team I can trust and rely on is of fundamental importance. Their reality is my own. I am not afraid to listen to their advice or be kept in check!

Treat the team well

One of the things that frustrated me when I worked in the corporate world, was the lack of flexibility when it came to staffing. I saw so many really good people leave or miss out on opportunities because of the lack of foresight on behalf of the company that was simply too afraid to risk flexible work conditions. The laws have changed, but companies are so slow to embrace the new opportunities. This was an important factor for me when I started my own company. BE FLEXIBLE! There was no way I was going to have a talented person miss an opportunity, because of where they were with their life situation, and need for flexibility. I see members of my team thrive and excel working within their own life balance. It's a glorious thing.

Mistakes happen

Just the other day I was talking about this with my team. Yes, when we push ourselves and strive beyond what we know in our learning mode, mistakes happen. We are human! The trick is to learn and move on. Do not repeat. It is important to me to provide an environment where my team and I feel safe to grow through discovery. I am learning every day, and being taught something new. It is such a wonderful experience. I may not always get it right (just ask Eliza), but I honestly try. The road of trust and discovery with your team is a two-way street. BE COURAGEOUS! Do not be afraid to have your team teach you something new, and do not be afraid to give your team the freedom to try.

Be thankful

The heart of my passion for everything I do is in taking the time to stop, reflect and BE THANKFUL. I have an amazing team! You will hear this from me, a lot. I know they do. I am so thankful for their hard work, their commitment to my dream and their passion for their craft. They are all artisans - every single one of them. So amazingly talented and skilled florists, they blow me away every day. It warms my heart and theirs when our darling customers say - "I bought something from you the other day and loved it so much..." "I gifted a loved one the other day, and they got so much joy from it..." "Your wedding flowers were so amazing, they made my wedding day complete..." "In such a sad time of loss, your sympathy flowers were so beautiful, they commemorated the memory of my loved one and warmed my heart..." "Thank you for your donation gift of flowers for our cause, everyone loved them!"

So... on that note... thank you, with love and blessings, GL x

Get Ready to Ring in an Amazing 2017!

2016 was a tough year for a lot of us, leaving us wanting desperately for the new year and a fresh start. But with all the challenges, there were good times too. Now is the time to reflect on the good stuff.

Here is what I try to do:

Write down everything you have achieved and be GRATEFUL. I believe that every challenge presented to us is an opportunity to learn and grow. If you had to move, you might have learned to let go of attachments. If you ended a relationship, you might have learned that you deserve a better more fulfilling relationship. If you struggled financially, you might have learned to creatively manifest all your needs and to trust. All of our struggles teach us to be more compassionate and less judgmental of others. Through learning life's lessons, we can open up our hearts even wider. Whatever our challenge, there is always an opportunity to learn.

Now we have filled our hearts, make a list of all the things you want to LEAVE BEHIND in 2016. This can be people, places, attitudes, judgements, misbeliefs, anything, really — and burn it. Safely, of course! I have a friend that likes to build a ceremonial mini bon-fire, where she likes to leave the luggage of the year prior, in order to be fully ready to embrace the beginnings of the new year. For me, I am more than happy to put them in the fire at home, and watch them burn.

Do your laundry, clean your house, remove expired food from the fridge, and bring in fresh flowers! Start out the New Year with a CLEAN SLATE. You don’t want to bring any “dirty laundry” into 2017. It may seem silly — but trust me. I know a lot of you are cleaning out your closets, garages and cabinets now and that’s even better. But if you are like me and don’t have much time — just clean out the fridge and do some laundry. This is about shifting energy and making room for the new. And fresh flowers? It is amazing how the simple beauty of quality fresh flowers, the smell, the glory of them, can uplift even the lowest spirits. For me, there is nothing better than walking into a room with fresh flowers - visually I am stimulated by them, and the smell, just wakes me up. Sets all my senses alight and I can take on anything the day has in store for me.

And finally...

Dance in the New Year! Allow yourself to be proud of all you have accomplished this past year and be happy you made it! Congratulate yourself with a pat on the back and send yourself blessings of LOVE, JOY, PROSPERITY, and PEACE. You deserve it! Believe it! If this is the bit you struggle with, try this tip I use - light candles - as you are lighting them, name them - love - joy - prosperity - peace. Simple tea lights will achieve this also. Reflect on this, as the wick takes light, allow yourself that moment to smile and feel the sentiment you have given light - you will feel better, I know I always do!

Happy New Year!

Many blessings to you, GL x

A Beautiful Natural Floral Themed Wedding, leaves a lasting impact

Ginger Lily Florists would like to wish Jane and Paul every success for a blessed union and wonderful life together. Love GL x

Autumn Wedding at the Ship Hotel

A really lovely day for the bride who was blessed with the weather and she absolutely loved our work.

The history of Stingy Jack Halloween lanterns

People have been making jack-o’-lanterns at Halloween for centuries. The practice originated from an Irish myth about a man nicknamed “Stingy Jack.” According to the story, Stingy Jack invited the Devil to have a drink with him. True to his name, Stingy Jack didn’t want to pay for his drink, so he convinced the Devil to turn himself into a coin that Jack could use to buy their drinks. Once the Devil did so, Jack decided to keep the money and put it into his pocket next to a silver cross, which prevented the Devil from changing back into his original form. Jack eventually freed the Devil, under the condition that he would not bother Jack for one year and that, should Jack die, he would not claim his soul. The next year, Jack again tricked the Devil into climbing into a tree to pick a piece of fruit. While he was up in the tree, Jack carved a sign of the cross into the tree’s bark so that the Devil could not come down until the Devil promised Jack not to bother him for ten more years.

A really happy customer

At last I have found a florist that delivers quality on time despite an 8am order on the day in question. Flowers delivered fresh with seven different varieties of some rarity with three to seven in quantity of each, beautifully arranged with lots of personal effort on one of the lower priced items making my wife so happy. A personal service that the large concerns cannot match. In this competitive world only the best and hardest working deserve to make a good living and that is you. I nearly forgot. Your online website is easy to understand and well planned with immense detail. Thanks again for your hard work....Peter Dom
